Shio Pan Ceramics

Hello, I'm Shio Pan Ceramics. I've been doing pottery since 2021 and I thoroughly enjoy it! I'm mainly inspired by anime and Japanese culture, after studying the language since 2013, I lived and worked there for 3 years in a small city called Iwamizawa, Hokkaido. In fact, my artist name Shio Pan, is inspired by my favourite type of bread from the local bakery in Japan! It roughly translates to salted bread. It's so silly in English, I love it so much.

Japanese language and culture has influenced my life in many ways and I'm very grateful for the opportunities that allowed me to live and continue to learn about pottery, the language, and the culture in Japan. I was born in Philippines but my family moved to New Zealand when I was a child so I identify myself and find comfort in many different cultures.

Creating funky octopus statement pieces is also one of my passions. The intellegence and fluidity of an octopus intrigues me so much. Shaping them is always a fun challenge to take on which I thoroughly enjoy.

I specialise in creating pieces with underglaze and I'm slowly amassing a large collection of all the Kiwi Underglaze colours. Having a background in painting has helped me create my pieces and allows me to exercise my painting skills and techniques.

I hope you can join me in my journey in pottery and support me along the way. I'd love to have a chat!
